Beach Daze: A summertime fantasy song
What a dream it was
Flying down the highway
Flying to the river
Things were going our way
Didn’t feel like a car
Could’ve been my motorcycle
There was sun -calls a lizard to a stone
And I was not bothered by anything I own
And we were flying down the highway
And we were flying down the highway
Feels like a bird on the wind
It was feeling really good to be human
In a moment where it never ends
At the start of a three-day weekend
Where you’re going to laugh with your good friends
While holding on to the arm of your lover
Feel your heart pumping time to begin
I’m going to swim ‘til my muscles are burning
Without a thought, what we’re gonna do after
I’m going to float while the water is turning
Back stroke right into the laughter
Zip line
Through my mind
So alive so alive
Zip line through my mind
It was good just to hear all the talking
I won’t remember half a word we say
There’s a trail where I wanna go walking
And feel every moment, passing the day
The kind of days where your brain makes pictures
The kind of nights photos get you in trouble
And you can see mountains over the water
And smell the trees when you splash the puddle
And it was fine, there’s a line, to divine in time
The feel of happily ever after
The kind of blast to your soul when you fall in love
And it was mine, so divine, give me your best shove
I’m going to swim ‘til my muscles are burning
Without a thought, what we’re gonna do after
I’m going to float while the water is turning
Back stroke right into the laughter
Zip line
Through my mind
So alive so alive
Zip line through my mind
And if it’s all a montage
Then I’ll still feel the sand
Swimming right over the surface
‘til I feel the ground with my hand
And then I wake up, the crowd is gone,
I’m in my bed it’s all a dream
I’m remembering in a song.
I’m going to swim ‘til my muscles are burning
Without a thought, what we’re gonna do after
I’m going to float while the water is turning
Back stroke right into the laughter
Zip line
Through my mind
So alive so alive
Zip line through my mind
-Lue Lyron, 2:45 - 3:20 pm, May 9th. I woke up from my nap, picked out the tune I heard- though I couldn't understand what the female vocal was saying yet. I took "I'm going to swim 'til my muscles are burning"- I think 'burning' was the closest thing to a word I could make out- and built the chorus around that. I decided to re-tell my dream- minus some details, plus others- to evoke the montage I experienced. There were a lot of children in the water, playing- I didn't hear where to say that in the lyrics.
I saw the faces of some people I consider my friends,
like Rebecca Diebert, and I am sure we were going to the water to meet Kelli and Eldon Dugan. That's funny, because Kelli's so fair-skinned, you might never expect a summer bliss-on-the-water song to include her. It was like a fantasy of something I look forward to, crossed with something I recall, crossed with a really great beer commerical, I guess. I hope my partner will be ready to sing it so you can hear it this week. I wish I could share a taste of the sound.
