What is the Scottish Rite?

A trusted friend got me interested in the Scottish Rite. Someone just paid his dues for him, which delighted him greatly. Do you realize what the Scottish Rite does?

The majority of their charity work centers around two magnificent little hospitals---one in Atlanta--and therapy work for children with any kind of communication disorder, be it aphasia, dyslexia, and others.

They affiliate with the oft-maligned Masons, in whose number was my father, and share their 33 degree progression. Scottish Rite has houses all over America and the world, and make their history available through free pamphlets such as the one I wish to review, ASAP. Actor Ernest Borgnine is probably the most visible member. I am curious about their communal concern with moral development and leadership.

The apron of the 4th Degree is white and black, with a letter "Z" and all-seeing eye. The jewel of this degree is an ivory key with the letter "Z" on the wards. The duties are secrecy, obedience and fidelity
